I’m very excited to announce that I will be teaching a one-day course on 12 July at the Dundee Botanic Gardens. I’ve been wanting to do some creative work at this space for some time. It’s a gorgeous location, filled with woods, gardens and overlooking the Tay River. So, recently when speaking with a fundraiser for the Dundee Botanic Gardens Endowment Trust, I noted how brilliant this place would be for a class. He agreed, and before we could stop the momentum a creative writing class was organised.
The class is hosted by ShortbreadStories in conjunction with the Denver Botanic Gardens Endowment Trust and is entitled ‘The Nature of Narrative’.
This course is for the beginning writer, professional novelist, or curious enthusiast. Using a combination of lecture, writing exercises, group interaction, and free writing-time, this class will explore how natural surroundings can inspire language, setting, character and plot.
This class is a fundraising event, with half the class fees being donated to the Dundee Botanic Gardens Endowment Trust and the other half donated to ShortbreadStories.
Book the class at: The University of Dundee Online Store
When: 12 July 2014, 10am-4.30pm
Where: Dundee Botanic Gardens, University Of Dundee, Riverside Dr, Dundee DD2 1QH
What to bring:
- Clothing: We will take inspiration from the weather (sunshine or rain) so wear comfortable clothing, and — while access to an indoor classroom will be provided — be prepared to write outside.
- Writing Instruments: Tablets and laptops are welcome, but (as noted) we will do quite a bit of writing in the elements, so bring pen and paper as well.
- Food and Drink: As this is a fundraising event, lunch and beverages will NOT be provided. But there is a café on site or feel free to bring a picnic lunch.
Not from the Dundee area? Why not make this class central to a Dundee get-a-way. For more information on what’s going on in Dundee, click here.
Please note that this class will not be cancelled due to weather, and there will be no refunds.
