I am so very excited to state that my short story ‘The Yellow House’ will be published in Royal Holloway’s journal Exegesis, for their Landscapes: Real, Digital and Imagined edition.
I wrote ‘The Yellow House’ back in 2007, and I sent it off to numerous publications and contests over the years without success. The piece is quite short and has indeed been edited, but unlike other works of mine which have been sitting on my computer growing corrupted for years, this piece has not been heavily altered. For example, my novella was originally written as a short story in 1993, and I finally completed it as a novella in 2010, by which point it was almost unrecognisable from the original version. Whereas, ‘The Yellow House’ sat waiting for someone to accept it as is.
Therefore, I think this story is a testament to finding the right place to publish. ‘The Yellow House’ was rejected from other publications because, most likely, it did not fit with their remit at that moment. Essentially, Landscapes: Real, Digital and Imagined was the right place to publish ‘The Yellow House’.
So, what I’m saying is, hold true and one day your story will find the right home.
